West Texas native involves his service-oriented family in a business that provides personal fulfillment and financial opportunity
A background in the healthcare industry, a strong interest in caregiving, and some very fortunate timing led Steve Cunningham to owning a Touching Hearts at Home franchise right in his hometown of Abilene, Texas.
Initially drawn to the affordable startup costs, the more Steve learned, the more he realized the company is a perfect fit for him and his family.

Steve Cunningham and his wife Shanie have professional backgrounds in healthcare and have seen the importance of senior care firsthand. After noticing a lack of non-medical in-home senior care options while caring for Shanie’s older brother, who eventually died from Alzheimer’s disease, they felt inspired to look into in-home senior care. “With our love for healthcare and helping people, it planted the seed in our heads about this business,” Steve says.
The time just seemed right to get serious about fulfilling their dream of opening their own business. With reasonable startup costs and a family-like culture, the franchise is an excellent fit for those with a heart for service.
“The lower startup costs really drew us toward Touching Hearts initially, but once we met the team, it was a no-brainer,” Steve says. He and his wife loved that the Touching Hearts team exuded both compassion and willingness to help them succeed.
Touching Hearts at Home franchisees are provided with support to start their business. “They make you a website and give you an email addresses,” Steve says. “They set you up with Clear Care, our in-house software provider, which is super nice and very user-friendly. Then they have someone help identify caregiver candidates that will be a good fit for your business,”. He adds, “I have never called there and not had somebody answer, if I had a question.”
“They’re all about family,” Steve says. “I think if that’s what you’re about as a person, then Touching Hearts is a great place for you. It’s a rewarding business.”
